Send Access report problem

Hi
I have an Access report that is sent via mail(Lotus Notes) to certain recipients.The report is sent via the File/Send
option within Access.
The trouble is although I specify that I want to send as a .rtf file,it is being recieved as an .xls file.
Is there a setting somewhere that is changing the format.

are you sure you are sending as an .rtf?
did you check the recipients to see if they have .rtf mapped to open with excel?
