how silly.

data protection/privacy is an trans-national issue. the proliferation of Statutes and rules that we have over the world at the moment is overbearing and unhelpful to businesses; and doesn't really afford the consumer any protection as they have no (easy) recourse against malfeasors outside of their jurisdiction.

The way forward is a pan-global response at the legislative level and technical solutions (where possible) build into the fabric of the protocols.

But before that is viable we need collectively to take a deep breath and back away from the fear of others having information about us. Distil it down to what might be genuinely problematic. and then act at that level.
