Hi,

Im new to Backup Exec and this forum for that matter (its very helpful by the way). Ive found a few threads relating to my problem slightly, but not quite the same.
Anyway, just so I can have more of an understanding. can anyone tell me simple terms what is the semaphone?

I have recieved various errors, one of which being:

"Storage devise "archive-0" reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported: semaphone time out has expired."

Also various errors about drive needing to be cleaned etc.

I tried for ages to setup a cleaning job following the manual, but i couldnt find the "slots button". and the cleaning tape just kept ejecting after a few secs. eventually after searching this forum it became clear that slots are only used when using an autoloader, and cleaning tapes only take a few seconds to clean, then they eject anyway.

So as far as I can tell I have now cleaned the drive.
But I still get errors about needing a clean. I also get errors about soft and hard, read and write errors.

Are these errors caused from a dirty drive. Do I need to open it up and clean it properly.
Or do I need to tick/untick some tickbox hidden in some configuration tab somewhere.

I have absolutly no idea.

could anyone shed any light?

thanks in advance
