Hi,

I will try to keep this short and sweet. I am interested in buying and selling domains... But I don't have the slightest idea about how to go about doing this. I have moderate computer expertise. I already own several domains and run several web-sites. I've noticed that there are "companies" around the internet offering their services to 'be the middle-man' for selling domains. Are they necessary? What is involved in the process (after having bought a domain...)? Am I free to sell a domain for the price of my choosing? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Or even a link to a web-site with appropriate (non-biased) information answering my question.

Thank you! I am happy to be a part of the forums!

If you own the domain, you can sell it for whatever you think you can get.

There's lots of people selling their domains on eBay.

But be careful what types of domains you attempt to do this with... cybersquatters have been losing alot of court cases lately.

Yup. Trying to register/sell will likely result in you making a court appearance.

And that includes domain names that are that obvious but not yet purchased... I'm trying to remember who they were, but there were several celebrity names which recently ended that way.

I bought my personal web site's domain name on eBay. I got it for something like $10 plus the cost to transfer it to my name. The guy I bought it from just thinks of cool names and registers them, then sells them on eBay. I can't see how he's making money when he had to register it himself in the first place. Plus he had to pay eBay fees for the auction. That kind of thins out the profit on that $10.

I think the hard part will be finding a domain name that will have enough demand to allow you to ask for a lot of money. Then you need a way to find someone willing to pay a lot of money for it.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

My wife got into the domain selling business totally by accident one day. She setup a domain, and like 2 years later some guy emailed her asking if she was willing to sell. He paid us $10k for the domain.

I understand now that he is doing rather well with his porn site on the domain. He's more than made back his money at this point.

That's probably the biggest way to make money buying and selling domains is to figure out a new porn site name, then wait for someone to want to buy it from you. Most corporate names are registered. Same with people.
