Selective distribution based on calendar

I really would like to implement notification of people based on our "on-call" calendar. We use outlook 2000 on the client side and exchange 5.0 on the server. So that if we could place on a calendar that person x is on call on the 13th of january and a process needs attention the next day the email sent from the process to oncall@myjob.com would be distributed to that person(s). Has anybody done this or is there a web link to better information about this. I cant be sure the person responsible for the process would always be there but the person oncall will.
