Selection problem

For a couple of days I was working on tracing a .jpg and I got pretty far into it but eventually my computer slowed down a ton and I shut down Illustrator. This was the first time I had done this. Every night I saved my file, but this was the first time I closed the program.

I opened my file yesterday and this is when the trouble started. When I use the black selection it shows the box around whatever I selected, but it doesn't show the outline and the black boxes of the selected item. When I use the white selection it shows the item on my layer list as selected, but again, no outline or little white/black boxes.

Now I know all my objects are still getting selected, because I can cut/paste them to another file. But I want to avoid doing this because it won't let me select my original .jpg.

I'm working from CS and saved my file as a .ai. I even emailed my file to my work computer and I'm getting the same thing there. I suspect that I accidentally hit some combination of buttons that shut off the outlines of selected items, but I have no idea what combination it could have been. If anybody can help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Since you emailed the file to your other machine and a different AI, teh file might be corrupted.

You might try the View menu and see if "show bounding box" is availabe, If it is, and not "Hide", click on that. I have no idea if that command would be saved in the doc.

If you're still having problems, the most common cause is corrupted preferences. You can quit AI, trash prefs, and relaunch to see if the problem goes away.

I started fooling around with some of the options under View. I guess I accidentally hit Ctrl+H at some point, which Hides Edges. Clicking on that in View or hitting Ctrl+H again switches it back. So it looks like I'm good to go. Thanks a lot for the help.
