Hi - I've a problem with adding a border to a selection area that I hope someone can help with. I select a rectangular area and cut it out - fine (this has sharp, square corners (as I want)). I then add a border & the outer corners of this are rounded (which I don't want!)
Any ideas how I square these outer corners, please?

What version of PSP are you using?

How are you cutting the shape out. Are you using the crop tool?

How are you adding a border?

I don't have any problems with rounded borders when I crop then use the Add Borders tool.

Sorry not to have replied before but I was ill yesterday; I'm better now so it's back to my PSP problem!

I create a new image, add a raster layer (100%) then cut a rctangular shape with the selection tool. I save this image as a mask. I then use Selection/Modify/Select Selection Borders. In this, I then tick the Outside box and set the border width to 10. I then Edit/Cut to remove a border from my rectangle and save this image as a mask too.

What I'm trying to do is create a rectangular mask and then create another rectangular mask slightly bigger (or slightly smaller would do just as well). No matter what I do though, the corners of the larger mask are rounded. I must be setting something wrong -just can't figure out what yet. The only way I've managed to square off the corners is by zooming in on each & cutting out the 'corner' pixels. It's very frustrating!

I wonder if you have the selection feathered? If you had then this would possibly create rounded corners. Take a look on the toolbar at the top to see if it's defaulting to feathered and if it is set it to 0 before you make the selection. I would create the outside size first then do Ctrl shift P to promote the layer. Next go to Selection Contract and choose how many pixels / cm / inches you want it smaller and then carry on to do whatever it is you want to do with it! [ponder] [thumbsup]

Hi AyJayEL,

No it's not feathered, I'm afraid. I tried your suggestion but the Contract option would only allow me to choose a pixel range of 1 or zero for some reason. I have come up with a somewhat convoluted fix in the meantime, though. I select and cut as before (but now I save the image for the outside edge first, as you suggested). I then choose Border selection and add a 6 (or whatever) pixel border to the selection INSIDE. Next, I cut this border selection which leaves me with the sharp inner edge I want. Finally, I flood-fill the border selection with black and save this image as my smaller mask. Voila, a solution of sorts!

Thanks very much for your help and for sticking with this one over the last few days :)

Regards,

Fiona
