The selection arrow is no longer able to be used for resizing of objects, e.g. text boxes, etc. Now only the for corner anchors appear when this tool is selected. What would cause this to suddenly occur? Is it reversible?

Go to View>Show/Hide Bounding box to toggle it's use (ctrl+shift+b on Windows)
