I have 2 db's, access(.mdb) and oracle10g

When i link the tables, i am not able to "select distinct records" the option is greyed out.

Any help ? or is linking different db types not allowed ?

i've created a odbc(rdo) connection for each.

I do not believe the linking of different db type is not allowed. I believe the issue is that CR does let you do distinct records when different DB types are linked together. If you have access to the DB's, may be creating a query (or stored procedure in Oracle) and doing the select distinct records will accomplish what you are trying to do.

I think the issue you are facing is that when linking different data sources Crystal can not use the database server to do a lot of the number crunching it would usually do and therefore will pull all records back from the separate databases, process the linking locally and simply discard the records from the resultant record set that are not required.

One alternatives would be to use Access to pull the required Oracle data into a temporary table so you are only querying one data source (or possibly the other way around if you have a friendly Oracle DBA who is willing to help). Otherwise, you might just need to live with it and use Grouping etc to deal with the non-distinct records.

Cheers
Pete.
