I am trying to set up a VB function using a SQL select coalesce statement which I can then call to replace the autonumber in my Access database. Has anyone used this concept? If so, how did you set the function up? Thanks! ;-D

Not at all understanding. Coalease is an SQL reserved word, which I do not think is supported by Ms. A. (at least through ver 2K). It's approximate replacement in Ms. A. (nee Jet) would be a form o the Nz function. How you would use it to replace an autonumber in a Ms. A (nee Jet) db is a bit foggy to me. Autonumber is what it is. It has some (internal) variation and several (suggestd) replacements (see faq700-184 for my contributition). How Coalease (or Nz) would be used to provide a unique identifier is beyond me. Hopefully someone else will see your inquiry in a different light.
