I am trying to create a report using 2 data sources -- which I know CR 8.5 is not really "supported" to do. I started out by trying to use a shared variable, then pass that variable's value to the select in a subreport, but that would not work because the shared value is not available for the subreport's select (evaluation time is too late in the process). Now, trying to link an Access table with my select values to the actual DB2 tables with the data is giving me file link errors (because CR does not handle multiple data sources well). Any ideas how to pass the value from the Access table to the select for the DB2 tables?
Here are the steps in more detail:
1. Select servername(s) from Access table (returns servername1, servername2, etc.)
2. Pass servernames from step #1 to the select in CR to pull data from the DB2 tables which have the data for each server. (This is the critical part -- using a subreport & shared variables, the variable value(s) from step #1 are not available to use in the subreports' select.)
Thanks for any ideas!

I would Link (not import) the DB2 tables into the Access database, and create a parameterized Query within Access as the data source for Crystal.

This will increase performance, ease maintenance, promote reusability, and provide a single data source to Crystal.

Crystal is a lousy database, Access is less so.

Thanks - this give me a new idea. We actually found a way to make it work by making the field (in the Access table, not DB2 table) type a long integer rather than an integer. Apparantly there is something in Access that allows linking / indexing with a long integer where it will not with just an integer. Thanks again for your suggestion to use a parameterized query - I can probably use that in the future.

I will have to take a look at this new feature when we evaluate version 10. Thank you for the information.
