select a database the report should run against

Hi,
a report was developed for database1 (Oracle). The report is saved as ....rpt file.
I want to use the same report on different databases without creating new ....rpt files for each of the databases.
How can I force the user to enter a database connection and to ensure, that the report runs against the selected database?

Consider using an ODBC connection and change that whenever you need to change the database.

Hi Kai,

thanks for your quick answer. This helps me a bit only. The reference to the tables/views in the database is in the report itself. If I know all database users, it's OK. But we want to send the reports to our clients. They have the same database schema like we have (they use our application) but we don't know the database user. Even if we would, the reports would not work anymore, if they e.g. make a copy of the database. The copy would have a different user name.
I'd like to have a reference to the view in the report without referencing to the databasename.view, but to the view only.

Example:
Currently used view: <database user>.<view name>
better: <view name>

Than I can define at execution time, from which database the view should be loaded.

Do you know, whether something like this is possible?

You can delete that section (username) in set database location. Just highlight and delete it. Sometimes it doesn't stay gone, just keep trying, saving closing, opening until they are all gone.
