Hello. I have some images I have done in Photo-Paint, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Image Ready. What I am trying to get done is be able to have just the image and not anything on the outside of the image. No white space, no back ground etc. Just the image only. I have the images exactely the way I want them, but I can not seem to get rid of the background/whitespace. How can this be done. I have tried until my head hurts in photo-paint but no luck. I have Corel Draw 11 and Photoshop 6. Just needing a down and dirty way to get just the image.

Thanks,

Hi,

I believe you are talking about extracting an image from it's background so tht you have only the outer edge of the image no matter what shape it is.

You will have to play around with channels and quick masks to get a good selection and then delete all the surrounding parts of the image that you don't want to see or have.

I don't have time to go into great detail right now, but if you look at FAQ229-1962 and goto about half way down that FAQ and check out quick masks then that should get you started.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bob

You are not simply talking about cropping your image, are you?

If so, in Photoshop there is a crop tool in the tool bar (third down on the left). With that tool selected click and draw a rectangle anywhere in your image. You can then adjust your crop outlines by draging them until they are where you want. When you are happy click the tick mark in the crop options box or press Shift/Enter on your keyboard to crop. Hey presto.

I will give this a try. What I am wanting to do is.... Say you have a airplane that is in a .gif, .jpg, .tif etc I want to take just the airplane and save it. I do not want the background to include white background. All I want is the airplane outline (silouette) and the plane inside of the outline, not the sky or anything. Just the plane and only the plane. I have tried cropping but all I get is the square box with white background and the plane, not what I am wanting.

Thanks,

Hi,

Do as I said above and extract it or if it's already extracted and you are about to save it then save it as a .psd or a .png, or a .tiff, that way you won't get a matte color added in when you save and you can preserve the alpha transparencies.

Hope this helps!
