I have been asked to replace the current domain controller for my company which happens to be the Schema Master. How does one go about replacing the schema master?

Would I have to seize the role with another domain controller on the network first?

What would be the first thing to do?

Dell 2850 server Win 2K3 Standard R2 SP2

TIA

As long as both dcs are online you can just transfer it. You only seize a role if the previous host is down for the count.

Couple of ways to do it easiest is just use the ad schema mmc and select operation master and then change. All the roles are pretty much the same utilizing the appropriate ad snap in.

You will need to register the mmc for schema, just do a search on google on how.
