I am looking for a free or shareware wysiwyg site building software which will leave me with a manageable site for a couple of months. It would be nice if it offered CSS building tools, but not necessary, as the site is an emergency reaction to a premature burst of business for a subordinate / add on branch, which needs to run independently from the main business.

We have a designer who will build all sites as soon as we are satisfied with all the details for our relatively complex business model, but the horse left the gate a little early on this branch, so we need to react quickly.

I have been playing with Blue Voda, but I see that this produces only .bvp (I think a proprietary format) which cannot be read, and it apparently rents out by the month.

Godaddy offers Joomla, but I can't figure out where to begin (working on it). I also have access to a few content management softwares through Godaddy.

What I need something which:
1) is not site specific.
2) is free or for sale as shareware (I am comfortable for this use under $50 for now) rather than leased or by subscription.
3) which lets me view the structure of the pages to make changes outside of the editing program.

It would be nice if it were desktop based, but it could also be server based: Linux with Mysql, PHP5 support.

My knowledge is:
Full basic HTML.
Understand but not practiced in CSS. (This not the time to learn it).
Completely ignorant of Java, etc, which we don't need/

I look forward to your suggestions.

This might not be what you want to hear but if you have full HTML knowledge, then coding the site in Windows Notepad would be substantially faster then trying to learn a wysiwyg app's in's and outs.

Anyway, you might find this site useful:

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Ok, so if it weren't too late, I'd probably have to name my first born after you, but just thanks.

Do you have any knowledge of these applications?

I notice that Amaya and SeaMonkey are apparently browsers with web authoring capacities, which is interesting.

I am curious that Mozilla produces another browser besides Firefox.

Anyway, thank you. I will report a few back.

Also, Bluevoda does submit to html files, but as far as I an see you can only use it when you subscribe to their domain hosting, which is not cheap. This explains the monthly fee.
I am not impressed by the program.

I don't personally use any of them or have any knowledge of them, I stick with my trusty Notepad to do my editing. But Mozilla is known to have good working products.

Here's another site with options:

I need a serious refresher course to use my trusty notepad. I notice working with Nvu, which seems the pick of the litter, that my knowledge of (old) html is barely enough to get me there.

Things are coming back as I fool around. Thanks again.

Glad I could help.

There are always good html tutorials at w3schools , also some CSS tutorials there to get you started.

I have been playing with Nvu, and I think it will be fine, coupled with my own knowledge - which is a) less than I thought and b) coming back slowly.
