I have installed Win98 and the boot priority is floppy, hard disk and CD-ROM. But everytime I switch on it says 'booting frm CD-ROM :' and I have to insert the Win98 setup CDROM. After that it gives two options - (i) boot from Hard Disk, (ii) Boot from CD-ROM and I can boot from hard disk. If I donot insert the CDROM it gives boot failure..insert your system disk. This is driving me crazy, how do I get to boot from the hard disk without any problems. I have reinstalled several times to see if anything happens but nothing has comeout. Please help.

First step would be to use your EBD and run fdisk /mbr.
I assume that you made one when you installed.

That should rewrite the boot loader that is sending you to the CD.

Hi,
Actually the problem was with the IDE cable. The master end was connected to the CD-ROM drive and the slave to the HDD. I changed it and it saved the problem.
Thanks for your fdisk/mbr command. I didnot know about the mbr option before.
Bye and take care.

Just one point its not generally a good idea to have CD-ROM and HD on the same channel as the ROM (ATA33) will limit the data rate for the HD which will most likely be ATA66 at the lowest.
