I have to print out some oracle manuals from pdf's on my home printer . I would like to economize on the volume of paper by printing the pdf's 2up to a page on both sides. thereby reducing the shear number of pages by a factor of 4. Is there some freeware that will do this? I have googled but all I find is $49 or more expensive commercial packages that will allow a download of a dumbed version that is limited in some way. If no one has any freeware to report - if I do have to bite the bullet - what would you recommend for a lowcost product that retains the original image of the pages but allows 2up printing? Or possible even 3up on legal size.?

Usually, depending on brand/model, your printer software wil handle this.

When you go to your Print window, see if you don't have something like a Layout option. You should also be able to select something like print Odd/Even for 2 sided printing unless you happen to have a machine with auto duplexing, in which you select that to print 2 sided.

Thank you but I think you are mistaken. 2-up I am using to mean printing two regular pages on one page. I discovered my newset printer has the means to do this - you are right the printer software will allow me to print 1, 2, or 4 pages on 1 page.

Thank you

My shop had been looking for a way to do that, too, but we also need to create booklets and some more involved things. We "bit the bullet" and bought Quite Imposing... it works wonderfully but it's expensive. If I were you, I'd try a few demos of the cheaper ones to see what will work best for you. I haven't heard of any freeware for this though... But when you compare to other software $50 isn't bad!
