How would one go about doing a "See Also..." or "For more details, see page..." in the document, and keep the number automatic so when i add or delete pages the numbers will be on the correct pages?

THanks you indesign geniuses!!!!

shift option command ] = Next page number
shift option command [ = Previous page number
on a Mac. You can also go to the Type menu and select "insert special character" and select one of the above from the flyout menu.

You use these with threaded text boxes to make it automatic.

Well, Next and Previous page numbers is not exactly what I want.

Basically I would like to say something like the following:

View Picture - Opens the Display Picture window and shows the current picture that is assigned to the individual record. (For more details please refer to page ###)

page ### is in a different chapter, it is not the next or previous page...

In this instance this line is in Chapter 9 page 188, but the initial description of View Picture (with more details) is in Chapter 4 page 60.

well, as long as it's threaded that way, it will work. So if you have a text box that started on p. 188 and then linked to a text box on p.60, it would work.

1. How do I link two text boxes together?
2. Can they be in seperate .indd files?

I basically have never used any of this type of feature in the program so if you could give me a little more details on exactly how to link two text boxes together and then what to put in the field or how to set up a field, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Hi - I think the easiest thing for you to do is go to the help menu in InDesign. Look up "jump lines" for the page number directions and look up "threading text" to make a text box continue on another page.

I doubt the feature would work between documents, but it may if they're set up as a book.

Ok thanks but i do not think it works over multiple seperate documents even if they are both in the same book... that would be a nice feature to have.

Thanks anyhow...
