Sadly, I failed the Security+ exam today with a score of 740. It looks like I missed passing by 2 questions or so.

I've been using the Thompson/Cisco Press "Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals". Can anyone recommend any other (or better) books?

how long have you been studying for this one Wish?

schase,

Admittedly, this one was just a toss of the coin. I have the Thompson/Cisco Press "Security+ Guide to Network Security Fundamentals" book.

Having a good background on many of the concepts, I read about 1/2 of the book and didn't study. As a result, I failed, and rightly so. I actually only missed the passing score by 3 questions (out of 100).

Next time I will be more prepared.

schase,

The passing score (if I remember correctly) is 762 on a 100-900 scale. I know I encountered a few questions on material I had never seen, and even after checking the book, couldn't find anything about.

Yeah, I was close, but I need to study more. I'm scheduled to take it again on Tuesday.

SimonDavies,

Off the top of my head, the one that stands out the most was the Bell-LaPadula MAC model, which wasn't mentioned at all in the text I have, but is covered in the link that glister provided above.

Well, I retook Security+ and passed.

While I'd like to be able to report that I got an amazing score, I did complete the 100 questions and the survey within 12 mintues. I passed with a score of 828.

Adequate preparation being the key.
