I'm trying to add a security layer to my site by having people log in using a username and password. Everything in help says to go to tools and then security, however the security button is grayed out and I can't choose it. Does anybody not what I need to do get that button ungrayed. Thanks.

I had the same problem and did get the section ungrayed but never got it to work, What i did was i went into my files section where my site is hosted and set up permissions on a sub page. Basically i created a sub page (the one i wanted password protected) and set permissions on that page so when someone goes into that page the box pops up and says name? password? worked for me..

rs6969, that is an easy fix. You are probably editing your web locally on your hard drive. Try importing your web and editing it from your url. You will find the security option no longer grayed out. Cozman has the right idea with creating a sub page.
When you are editing from your URL, hitting the save icon will post your changes. Then if you hit the publish icon it will save it to your hard drive. That whole process works in reverse when you are in a local edit (ie, you've opened up and html from your hard drive).

I appreciate the help, but I'm still having problems. I created a web folder from the location of my site. I openend that web folder through front page. (So at this point I was working directly at my URL). The security button was still grayed out. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a sub page. Maybe that's the problem. Maybe I'm not in a sub page. Please help???

Note: If the FrontPage Security command is unavailable, make sure that you entered as the folder name when you opened the Web site, rather than opening the site as a file on your hard disk. You must manage security through IIS, and IIS uses NTFS to set permissions and enforce security settings. When you open a file from your NTFS drive, you bypass the server extensions security features within FrontPage.
It could be that it is not supported in your setup.
