Hi,

I have just taken over looking after sharepoint and been given the task of creating some new sites but the problem is the security on the subareas.

I have created all the content and I know who needs access but cant seem to figure out how to give them the correct permission

the setup at the momen is as follows

Home
topics
divisions

under divisions are several subareas and I have created a new one the problem is that the group only wants access to the subarea and I dont want them to be able to see all the areas above it.

can anyone help with this one please

Thanks

Hello,

You can set specific permissions on your subareas, but you have to stop the permissions from being inherited from the parent. Keep in mind that there is a big difference between a SharePoint site (Windows SharePoint services) and a SharePoint area (SharePoint Portal Server). It might be difficult to arrange and manage the permissions with areas. I would suggest that if you have the need restrict certain things you should use WSS (Windows SharePoint Serivces) sites instead.

Cheers,
Thomas
