I'm running w2k server and want to set the access to hkey_classes_root so that only the administrator can modify it and all others can only read it. Since there is no file by this name...how do I accomplish this? I've looked a bit through the mmc at the group policy settings but cannot determine what to do. Thanks

This is done via the registry, run regedt32 then highlight hkey_classes_root, select security and then permissions from the menu.

As alway be careful when editing the registry and fyi I don't know what effect the changes you want to make will have on your server.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

This can be done through Regedit - right click and alter the permissions from there - back up your Registry first though.
