I created a database and used the built in security.

I have a front end database which is application file (it is unprotected)

I also created a backend file which contains the data only. (it is NOT protected)

Access created a "Secured.mdw" file. And an access exe file to open the front end application file

Here is my problem. I copied and emailed all three files to my home computer for a safe backup. However, I can not open the application file. It says I do not have permission.

what is happening here?

How can I remove the security?

thanks

steve

Make sure you're shortcut is correct on the icon you use to open the secure db. Format should be:

Target: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp "c:\yourdir\Secured.mdw" "c:\yourdir\database.mdb"

Start In: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office"

That should do the trick for you. Make a seperate icon to load each db, or once you open one, you should be able to open the other through access as long as you don't close it. I think there are ways to make this default when you open access.. lookup "secured.mdb" with the office assistant and read through the stuff about user accounts. -Dustin
