I have an access 2000 db, which had a mdw file attached to it. The mdw file has been lost, and is unretreivable. The details of the workgroup have also been misplaced by the owner i.e. Organisation name, pid etc...

However, by double clicking the mdb file I can still gain entry into the db, subsequently as user admin.

However, the user "admin" does not have administer permissions, so can not go into form design etc...

By using Code can I give admin permissions to administer the datbase ?

Any Other ideas ??

I think that if you re-install Access, it will create the mdw file that you want.

Hi Gball,

I think that if I re-install access all that would happen is that access would default to the system.mdw file, which still would not help me.

Any Other Suggestions ?

I will assume that when you are double clicking you are holding down the shift key to go directly to the design mode. I often join different security groups. The standard system.mdw file (unmodified) has worked fine for me to administer Access programs even if the general users are joined to the "real" security file.

Did you try to give administrator access to the admin ID? There are a lot of different ways to set up the Access security. If you are logging on to access and the ID that comes up is "admin" then you are hitting the default .mdw file. The form may be looking for a specific ID, example "123456". That name is tide to the specific form with administrator access. So, you may want to add "123456" to the security file with admin access. Before making any changes to the security file, I would copy the "system.mdw" file and save it somewhere in case you want to revert back to it. Or create a new .mdw file, link to it and then make the changes to it. Also there is a way to use a specific mdw file with a specific mdb, instead of every access mdb using the same mdw.
