Hi... please help

I have a workstation on the domain running Windows XP Pro, which will not let anyone log in because it's security log is full. When I try to log in as the administrator to clear the log, it says that something has been typed incorrectly, check case of letters etc and blocks the Administrator. When you try to log in as anybody else it says the administrator is the only person that can log in.

I've tried logging in as the administrator on other machines which is working fine without any problems.

Can anyone help with this... I'm really stuck.

go in in safe mode, does that work?

i just started the machine and logged in as the a standard domain user, and it's let me in this time. Cannot delete the log from this account though due to admin access rights. Still will not let me in as the administrator, so I'll be faced with this problem again if the computer is re-booted.

Stop trying all that and try to get in in safe mode, as Administrator

How do i get in safe mode as the admin. I can only get as far as the network log-in screen. How can I get into safe mode as Admin from boot up?

If you can't get in via safe mode, try creating a custom MMC console on another computer connecting to this workstation and clear the log remotely.

You press F8 repeatedly during boot, just after memory count.

Cheers Marc... I'll see if I can get in as soon as the machine is free again.

If that doesn't work you can temporarily add the user you can log in with to the administrators group, clear the log and then remove them from the group.

Reboot so the most recent security applies to the user.

MMC bit should work but failing that create a group policy (machine based) and increase the log sizes to allow you to temporarily to log in

reboot the machine so that the policy can apply the new settings
