I believe I have an issue with Users requiring exlusive access to the Access 2000 database in order to render a dynamic report. I have created a base report that has a number of unbound fields including the report record source. From a form the user selects start and end dates that get fed into the query of time for jobs worked on. Once the user selects the option to generate the report the report is opened in design mode (acViewDesign) and the select query is set as the report record source. Depending upon the time tasks performed on a job and selected by the user in a list box, a corresponding task description is placed in the first unbound task field available in the report (report textbox names are prefixed with integers that would match a counter used in VBA code loop). Accordingly the time and cost are placed in correpsonding unbound fields within the report. This is carried out for each type of time task. This way all the tasks appear one under the other, neatly ordered. If I set the report fields' sources statically I would see gaps in the list of tasks, time and costs which the organization doesn't want. After the report fields have been "assigned" I open the report in Normal View mode and the user is given the option to print.

I believe that this would require the user to open the DB in exclusive mode in order to make the changes to the dynamic report? I can do this as an admin but not as a clerical user which it was intended for. Is there another way that I can do this without having to provide exclusive design access to the user?

Hopefully someone has already dealt with this? I'd appreciate any help I can get with this.

Each user should have their own copy of the front end mdb. This is especially important if you are modifying designs of objects.

Thanks Duane. As I was looking into this problem I noticed a few posts that mentioned the back end and front end of the database. I obviously haven't split the database and hence my problem. I'll start looking into how you do that and if I run into problems I'll be back!

Thanks again.
