I'm looking into taking the Security+ exam (already Network+ certified). Just have a couple more questions about it...

1) Will the exam be updated anytime soon? (Don't want to spend time studying material only to find out that I'll be taking a different exam).

2) What study materials do you recommend? (I used the "For Dummies" book for the Network+ exam preparation, although I read that the Security+ version isn't very good).

3) How much time do you think is required to study for the exam? I would like to schedule the exam so that I have a deadline to keep me working...but I don't want to run out of time before I can grasp all of the material.

Thanks!

Have a look at the Comptia website with regards to any dates for when the exam will be updated.

I used the Mcgraw Hill Book by Gregory White ( but that's been replaced with ( in Feb 2009.

It really depends on what your knowledge is like, I did the studying for my exam over two weekends, sat the exam and passed it within 15 minutes (I was actually out of the exam centre in 18 minutes, from walking in the door to walking out the door). For me the Sec+ was easy, for you it may not be.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

Some questions though, like what is your experience? Are you a network admin, or just out of high school? The awnser to that makes a big difference to how much studying a person has to do. If you've been working security for 5 years in real life and your studying weekends looking at answers for the test, that's one thing. If you've not worked with security in real life much, how much work is it going to take you to get ready for the test, and what's your best method to get ready? How about the Exam Cram Security + 2 book? Know anybody that's ever used that? Just wondering. Thanks.
