Security>Unique permissions>Server error!

When I convert a folder to web, select "this web has unique permissions" then apply, I got the message:
"Server Error : The user or group XXXXXXX is unknown"
Why is that???

hi. don't know the answer but have been scouring for the answer for about 10 days!!
