I am running SQL 2k and GP 7.5 - I have a user who is occasionally (accidently) voiding sales transactions when the transactions are orders instead of transferring them to invoices. I am looking for a way to change security so that they can not even hit that button. I can not find anything in security that would imply changing the void button or not allowing them into a select screen.

Except for writing a trigger that would notify the folks when something has been voided I am not exactly sure what else to try --- ideas?

If you have the VBA/Modifier module you can modify the screen to disable this button.

yep, buy more stuff so that you can correct real life problems........

I find a good conversation with the offending employee clears up the mistakes. Failing that, a warning letter and having them re-enter the orders works as well.

and they wonder why they call it Great Pains!

If you have SP3 you can use Advanced Security and disable it for that user. At least I think you can....I'm playing around in it right now and I'm expecting a few security-related phone calls any minute! lol

Thanks!

Thanks for the response folks

PTina - I do not have VBA modifier unfortunately ---
jazgeek - these folks enjoy the abuse too much and their boss likes to warn them over and over and over... and then wonder why we can not keep them from self destructing

Barbola – have a star on me! Although I have SP3, I had not used the advanced security yet --- we looked at it with our ‘partner’ (note the quotes as I am never quite impressed with their level of knowledge) and knew it was there – just did not have the occasion to use it… and BINGO there is only one place where voided transactions were noted. Seems it still lets them say that they are going to void the transaction, but it backs out the transaction interestingly enough. Seems there are some new things that a few users have access to now that I did not know about it --- and today I am ready to be an IT hard butt and take away what I think they do not need… <insert slightly evil laugh here>

Thanks again folks – I appreciate it!

Thanks for the * (my first!) I haven't had any of those phone calls yet - just wait until I actually turn security ON....<very evil laugh>

Thanks!

Jymm,

What about putting a password on Void? Go to Setup-Sales-Sales Order Processing which opens the Sales Order Processing Setup window. Then click on the Order button and select the Order Type your users are voiding. In the scroll window at the bottom, there is a column for password, next to Void orders.

This would force them to have a manager (with the password) void their orders, and prevent them from voiding them "accidently".

I know the next step is the password would become common knowledge...
