I have posted something like this in the past..
I was wondering if anyone out there knows were access stores it security info when using a MDW file??

If i get corruption in a DB and have to export to a new database i loose security info...now when i use the JETCOMP utility to compact my db's it creates a whole new DB and does not loose security info..so that data has to be stored somewhere..

can anyone help with this?

thanks DVannoy

The security link is stored in one of the MSYS tables which are hidden from view inside your db. Which is why when you export from within Access you lose the settings because it only exports the data to your other db, not the MSYS tables. The JetComp utility bases the new db on ALL tables (including MSYS) in your MDB so your MDW settings are not lost.

I don't know how you would get the settings out of the MSYS in one into the MSYS in another db since Microsoft doesn't publish how those tables work. I'm sure someone has figured it out somewhere but I wouldn't suggest messing with them as Microsoft has full reign to change the way they work at any time. So any work you do to figure it out may get undone by a service pack or an upgrade to a new version of access.
