I have a SMTP virtual server running on IIS 5. If i allow anyone to connect or relay everything works. Of course this leaves an open relay.Which IP addresses need to go into the connection and relay options to allow the right access.

I am thinking external mx server address? I have tried firewall gateway, internal exhchange server

any ideas?

You need to enable only allow to send mail when clients are succesfully authenticated.
