Secure Socket websites

Help,

Does anyone know anything about Secure Socket websites, my problem is that I am navigating some sites which should be SSL, but the secure padlock does not show in the bottom of my browser.

Could this be due to a setting in my browser options ?

It's not necessary for the entire site to be under a secure layer. Usually, those pages that deal with the transfer of secure data/images are placed under the secure socket layer. So, don't fret if the paddlock doesn't show up on a page that doesn't display or transfer trusted data. There's always a better way...
