Secure Login (CTRL+ALT+DEL, Username and Password)

If Windows 2K Pro is set up so that when the PC/laptop reboots and then loads Windows without asking for a user name and password (goes directly into the desktop), can that be changed without having to reinstall the OS? If so, is it done by going into the control panel/user accounts & passwords (I don't remember exactly what it's called).

See if this is what you are looking for:

Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools-> Local Security Policy -> Local Policies -> Security Options ->
Disable Ctrl+Alt+Del Requirement for Logon -> Set it to disable.

Do you want it NOT to ask for login or for login to be required ???

I would like to be asked for a login.
The PC is not on a domain so all I would expect for it to ask me for is the user name and password. This way, any old body cannot turn on the PC and get right into Windows.
It appears that whomever initially installed Windows didn't give the local account on the PC a password.

I'm sorry...perhaps I'm not being clear. I don't want automatic login. I want Windows to display the login screen so that a valid username/password are required.
I've gotten as far as the 'Require users to press Ctrl-Alt-Del before logging on', where I've put a checkmark and then select, "apply"...after which I've rebooted but I'm still not seeing the Windows login screen.

Users and Passwords in control panel. Check box - users must enter user name and password to use this computer.

Make sure user has password set (advanced tab, advance button from Users and passwords - or run lusrmgr.msc)

1) how many users are listed in Control Panel > Users? (you NEED to have at least one...other than Admin or Guest).

2) as wolluf said: "Make sure user has password set".

3) click Start > Run; type in "control userpasswords2"; click "user must enter name and password to use this computer"; click Apply (but DON'T close the window); click Advance tab; click on "requires CTRL+ALt+Del"; click Apply (again); now, click OK and reboot.
