Hi everyone. I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I'm looking for a way to securely update dynamic DNS in BIND from a Windows PC, most likely XP, possibly 7 as well. I haven't been able to find any how-to articles describing this. Is it possible? What would I have to do to set it up?

Basically I have some PCs I lend out to people who need them for a little while (because theirs died or they just need one for a short time for some reason), and I'd like to be able to access them remotely. If IPv6 addresses can be updated dynamically that would be even better. Some of our ISPs around here do have IPv6 already, but the first 64 bits of the address depends on which of their DHCP servers gives the address. Comcast likes to change things like this all the time, so you almost never have the same subnet.

Any help would be appreciated, even if it's just a link to the proper place to look.

The approach that immediately comes to mind would be to use a dynamic DNS service on the PCs that get lent out, giving each one a unique hostname. Typically these services have an update utility that runs when they get assigned a new IP address. This way you would always be able to locate and access them by name as long as they were connected to the Internet. This sounds a little different than what you were describing as the Bind zone files would not be updated, but you wouldn't need to maintain a DNS entry for these machines.
