Hi, I've been asked to add a secondary default gateway on some Solaris servers. I've seen in /etc/defaultrouter man page that I can include several default routers in this file, but I'm not sure how it will handle it (which one is the main and which the backup router). ¿Is anyone using several default gateways? Also, do I need to add this secondary default route with route add, and how will the server know this is the backup route, not the main one?

Thanks to all.

OK, I added a new line to /etc/defaultrouter, and after that I added a new default gateway with
route add default IP

But we're having some trouble because the system is not handling it as a backup gateway. Now it's using both gateways, and that's making some trouble.

Anyone knows how to add a secondary gateway that acts as a backup gateway?

Thanks

Well, I've also tried with option -multirt but this only seems to work with routes for hosts, not for nets, unless I'm missing something.
Anyone knows something about this option?

Thanks

Well, we've talked with Sun and here's what they've said:

When having more than one default router, it works in a round-robin way, and there's no way to change this.
This should be done with external network configuration:
[..]
If the customer uses VRRP or HSRP (cisco) on his default routers they
will only advertise a single address which would be the active master.
This same address will fail over to the standby router if the first fails.
[..]

So I post it here for future reference.
