We have several laptops and pc's having this problem. OS Windows 2000 (sp3), Office Professional (sp3). If you create a new excel document and save it locally, the save is almost instant. If you make one or more changes and resave it will take 10 seconds or more and freeze all other functions in the os tool bar. (internet explorer, other open apps, etc. All laptops and pc's are 1Ghz or better with 256M ram. If we save to a network drive the save is fast. I am stumped on this one, any help would be appreciated.

Have you got Norton Antivirus installed? If you have the "File System Realtime Protection" set, then this will cuase the problem. Check Symantec's site for a fix.

Turn this option off and take a look at the performance then. If you do not have Norton installed, post back and I'll do some more investigation.

Thanks Hasit, but no we do not have Norton Antivirus. We do have MyCIO from McAfee installed, On another note, there is nothing unusal happening in the task manager.
