OK i have setup a second domain controller into and existing domain. The orginal dc is a 2003 sbs the second is a 2003 enterprise (Because that's our standard os for servers before someone asks why enterprise).
When i fisrt opened AD from the new dc, opened ok, i could see all the users and computers. left it for awhile while i did other things came back about half hour latter went to open the AD on the new dc comes up with an error message saying "naming information could not be located because either the specified domain could not be located or could not be contacted".
Now if you click on ok it opens the ad users and computers window with a red x next to the active directory. If you right click and go connect to domain controller and type in the server name it connects.
If i open AD sites and services and go to servers i see the 2 dc one (the orginal) called server and the new one called server02. If i go to the NTDS settings properities for the first server(called server) it's saying it's replicating from server02, the new one. Should that be the other way round. Server02 should be replicating from server surely.
could this be the reason for the error on server02?
how do i change this around?
sorry for th elongwinded explanation.

Regards
Max

OK don't know for sure what i did but it works now I can open the ad from the second dc without any errors. I think it was a dns issue. I ran ipconfig /registerdns left it for about 10 min while some updates were being downloaded and installed, rebooted then after that it all worked.
