We've got a few Windows 7 computers in the office that are seeing bizarre behavior when searching for files on a Windows 2003 Server share. The search finds the files just fine, but the metadata is wrong. Specifically, the last-modified date stamp is wrong. On the other hand, when the user navigates to the file location and looks at the file directly, it shows the correct date stamp.

I've restarted the indexing service on both client and server and yet the problem remains. Does anyone have any insight to this? Anyone heard of this before? My next step is to reboot the server, but since it's our main file server, I can't do that until tonight.

Thanks in advance!

Is it worth running ChkDsk on the Server?

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Try it first by not checking either box (this will run it in a Read-only mode) to see if it flags any hard drive or file problems. If it does, restart it by ticking both boxes, and rerun it to allow it to attempt to fix any found problems.

It might pay you to ask your question in the Server Forums too.
