Does Crystal allow you to search all report files to find a particular field?

For instance:

When a developer tells me he is changing or killing a field within a table, I need to search through 100+ reports to see if they use that particular field. Is there an add-on (or ability within Crystal) that can tell me which reports use a particular table/field?

Thanks!

Crystal does not allow this, but it does allow you to export to a Report Definition File which contains where fields are used within reports.

There may be a good 3rd party tool for this, I just haven't discovered it yet (would be relatively easy to write).

My solution to this is to always maintain a copy of the SQL used (in a table) for every report as part of the documentation.

I put together some quick VB, which dragged a good deal of useful information out of an entire directory of reports. ALl of this is dumped into an SQL Server DB.

It was initially written, to try & bring the Parameter names into some level of consistency, so that I could over come the very problem you have mentioned.

I have since added little bits as needed. Another purpose I have for it is to assist with the fact that Crystal can't dynamically update default values for parameters.

If you need help writing something similar yourself, let me know.

Regards,

Peter.
