Searching outlook task for specific item

I have an access DB that creates tasks in an Outlook 2003 Public folder. My problem is that the tasks can be duplicated.

How can I stop the tasks duplicating OR how can I search the task to see if the entry already exists before I create the new entry?.

I have unique identifiers currently set up on to put a reference in the 'Catagory' field which is in the format "nnn-nnnn" (userid-IDNO)

Anybody any ideas
