NO results are returned for any search including simple test text documents. This includes searching from the portal site, top-level site, and test site. Previously, searching seemed to work fine with our original test sites.
Attempts to fix the problem:
1. Verified that the sites are configured to be indexed under ‘Manage Crawls of Site Directory’
2. To be sure, added a new content source called ‘documents’ that specifically includes 3. Viewed Gatherer Logs – no problems noted
4. Reset and recrawled indexes
5. Created a new index called Archive, set up its content source pointing to the top level site – didn’t return anything so I deleted it
6. Checked to make sure ‘Enable Full-Text Search’ was checked under Central Administration – WSS – Configure Full-Text Search
7. Also saw that ‘Enable Data Retrieval Services’ was checked
8. Checked diagnostic logs under Central Administration – noticed there are no recent MSSEARCH.LOG files (since 5/12) so maybe there’s a glitch with the mssearch service on the server.
9. On the SQL server: restarted SQL Full-Text Search Service – no problem; Noticed Indexing service is disabled – the options to start, stop, restart, etc. are all grayed out – Startup type: disabled – Should this be set to auto and the server restarted?
10. On the SQL server: under SQL Server Configuration Manager: Full-Text Service is running using account SQLsrvc – restarted it – no problem
On the Sharepoint Server: indexing service was already started; MS Sharepoint Search service was already started – restarted – no problem
