I want to search a free text field in a SQL database for certain words, and then assign a value based on whether or not those words appear. The particular field I'm interested in searching does not appear in the formula editor, and if I manually add the field, I get an error message saying "Blob field or memo field cannot be used in a formula".

Is there a way to work around this?

TIA,

Cathy

No there is not. Crystal Version through 8.5 cannot 'see' free text (or 'memo') fiels in the formula editor. There is a rumor that this feature WILL be available in Version 9 when it is released in the fall. Howard Hammerman,

Try breaking the memo into some separate smaller fields.
