How does the search work on sharepoint 2003.

When im trying to search for a certain number (example: 800-7700), it brings up all documents with 800 on them...What if I was looking specifically for 800-7000 or any other specific number...Is this possible????

Thanks

MC

I haven't tried it, but have have you tried putting double quotes at each end "800-7700" ?

Hello,

Are you using WSS och SPS? With SPS you have more advanced search features than in WSS.

Thomas

I tried using the quotes..Is still picks up anything with 800 in front of it.

I am using SPS, but trying to do a search in one of the WSS sites...

Okey, you are actually executing the query in a WSS site, is that Correct? I.e you are not using the SPS search?
Even if the WSS site is site in your portal site directory it uses a simple search.

If you do the search from your portal, you can go into the Advanced search and see if it might help you get better results.

We have a WSS site for one of our departments...

They have a few excel documents up there...

They dont have access to the portal, only to that WSS work site created for them. Which is why they need to use the search inside the wss site, not the portal.

I guess wss only uses the simple search? which kinda defeats the purpose if your looking for something specific....

Anyway around this?

Yes, WSS only uses a simple search, and you can't really do much with it. There is a powersearch for WSS out on the market. Do not know the cost for it though, but might be worht looking into. Just search for wss powersearch on the net and you should find info about it.

Thomas
