ok, I've run into a question I surprisingly have not run into before. Is it possible to search for a given filename across all backups, regardless of hostname?

ie; If I wanted to find all instances of "this_is_my_file.txt".

Thanks!

Symantec helpdesk was no help.

Ok, this is not pretty but.....

cat_convert -dump -short
Enables you to view the contents of catalog image.f files and the fourth field contains the filename

The files are located here:
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/images/$CLIENTNAME/*/*.f

BUT: some of them will be in NetBackup compressed format.
/usr/openv/netbackup/db/images/$CLIENTNAME/*/*.f.Z

You're gonna have to do some scripting.

Found my answer. Searching for all versions of a file on a single server: Below is an example of a case independent, path independent search of the passwd file on a server. It can only be done for one server or a select group of servers at a time unless you script it to do that.

-bash-3.00# bplist -C <client_name> -R -l -I -s 01/01/2008 -PI passwd | sort –u

There is a -ntfiles switch if it's a Windows client.
