Hi,

I made a website for a firm and now they want to promote it. One thing to promote it is to include it in as many search engines as possible. But in fact, it's not do-able to do this manually. I want to know how this website gets in the search engines. Are there any good tricks (free maybe...). When I find absurd geocities pages in google it should be easy to get a professional website included too I guess.

Anyone can help me with this issue?

Thx,
Steven

P.S. I used meta-tags to include keywords and a description.

You can find a recent discussion of submission services at thread253-403160 .

It is, in fact, eminently "do-able" to manually submit a site to the handful of search engines that really matter. Just look for the "submit URL" link (or similar) somewhere on their pages.

PS. Don't worry too much about keywords, most engines ignore them these days.

Some ideas to ensure bots crawling your site index it and therefore maximise the opportunity for good search results.

Identify the top 10 keywords and phrases that you believe people will use when searching for the types of products or services your firm provide.

Then on the home page have approx 300 words of text using the above keywords and phrases. The use of these words should be near the top of the text.

Then also include alt tags on any images - ensure full sentences are used with keywords and phrases also.

Navigation on the site should if possible include keywords and also in the title tag.

A word of caution however - do not overuse these keywords and phrases as it can be considered spam.

Another recommendation is to include any scripting, e.g. javascript, in external .js files. This is to ensure the body text is nearer the top of the page and therefore more likely to get "read" by the crawlers.

Hope this helps

Ciao
