Hey everyone!

I've been trying to figure out how to do a search engine that will only search in my web site. Now, here's my question...how could I make a search in the content of my html pages? Is that possible? Cause the search engines I found so far, they search in its own page for the descriptions, which are written by hand by the programmer. The web site I'm working on is way too big for that and it wouldn't be the best way to do things..So, if anyone has any ideas for me, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks guys! :)

You are completely right. One common method is to get the keywords from META tags and put them in a database. But when you want to search the contents of a web site, it is not possible to index all of the pages.

In this case, you should use applications specifically designed for this purpose. One of the most common applications used is Microsoft Index Server, which is included in Option Pack 4.0+. You can install it and it automatically builds an index for your entire web site. Then you can use it's services to perform a cusyom-search in contents of your web pages.

For more info you can take a look at MSDN. (I think there is a sample page in Exploration Air, a sample web-site that can be installed along IIS)
