HI

Does anyone know how a search engine & Directory work?

Okay just say i created a website called xxx.com. I want it to be in all the search engines like yahoo, altavista...almost everything. How do we do that? Okay i know that there is this function in html which is called meta tags - which handles the search part.

<META NAME=&quot;description&quot; CONTENT=&quot;?&quot;>
<META NAME=&quot;keywords&quot; CONTENT=&quot;?&quot;>

Well what i would like to know is how do we control it so that it will appear on the first page of the search rather than some where in the middle. Does anyone know how to create such a page for example the keyword =&quot;tour&quot; and then the site xxx.com should be listed on the first page rather than some where in the middle.

As we know the keyword &quot;tour&quot; is such a common word and how does a search know that this &quot;tour&quot; is for this web page xxx.com? Is there any way we could classify them.

Thank You.

There are lots of things you can do -- search this site for metatags, and see what you come up with --

Personally, I don't know if metatags are an art or a science, but there are lots of differing opinions out there about what you should and shouldn't do concerning them.

you can also go to:

To get yourself registered on alot of the major search engines.

good luck! :)

As for making sure that you come out on the first page - I don't think you can! There have been lots of sites that have tried various things (like using the same keyword 1000 times), but most of the search engines don't fall for those tricks anymore. Each search engine uses some ranking criteria to determine the order of the list, but determining what they are is tricky, and trying to fool them is trickier still.
