Search Engine Not available

I get the following error when trying to do a simple search:
Livelink Error:
Error in search broker

[Search engine on <back end db/application server name>:8510 not available!]

What does when you are looking thru admin.index,open The system voume say.Are there errors in the process.Does a simple re-start fix it ?What type/version of livelink ?

For such events, do you have the SOV management emails set up? Those will notify you within 5 minutes if things like the search engine goes down.
