Search Engine Listing

One of my clients has been approached by 'The Search Engine Optimisation Salesman' who has promised to get him to the top of all the major search engines under various categories.
My question is simple.
Should we take these companies seriously?
Or are we in scam territory?

No one can guarantee search engine listings, at least not in the major search engines. Here's a forum for search engine optimization:

One thing I remember one boss talking about is selling a "guarantee" for search engine placement for twice the price as regular search engine optimization and registration, with a 50% discount if the site didn't come up according to the guarantee. The same work was done on all sites, but some people paid twice the price for it when their website indexed well.

Like the old saying goes, "the devil is in the details" with any agreement like that. Read the fine print and you'll find there is NO real guarantee, just double talk to get you to believe paying this person will get you the results you fantasize about.

Like Lee said... guarantees to put you in the top spot for all major search engines are almost certainly misleading claims.

Depends on the phrases and market competition guys. Top SERP's are possible in all major search engines.

Once again the question is the target market:

custom home builder (quick results not likely)

vs

custom home builder florida (quick results more feasable)

vs

custom home builder miami florida (quick results definately possible)

Depending of course upon the immediate competition and the quality of the site that will be marketed. How long has it been online? Does it have quality inbound links already? Etc...etc...

With that being said "i guarantee high rankings immediately" should never come from your mouth.
