Using the "binocular" search button in, for example, the IM master maintenance, there is a drop-down box at the top of the search screen called "Searches". In our case, there are three searches in this drop down: Item number, Item description, and Substitute item. Item description appears to be the default. I don't know where this can be modified, so the user wouldn't need to go to the drop-down every time to change it. The default doesn't appear to change if a user changes it on the fly.

Also, can the default be different for different users, or is there one default system-wide. I know there is a way to assign search numbers in screen designer to specific users on specific screens, but I don't see how this drop-down list ties into it.

That default is stored on the workstation in the Macola7.ini file which normally is in the c:\windows folder.

There is a section in that file that would look something like the following:

[SrchKeys]
IM-ITEM=1

The IM-ITEM is the search name and the #1 tells Macola which one you want as the default. The first one on the list would be 0. If you want to go back to the first one on the list you can set it to 0 or delete it from here altogether.

Thanks for the solution. It was simple, and did the trick.

Bert,

There is no need to modify the macola7.ini file. Just pick the search you desire for that particular screen and the macola7.ini file gets updated and it will automatically default to that search in the future, for that particular workstation.

Unfortunately the Item Search has a bug in it in some versions of Macola and search 0 "Search by Item No." can not be reselected as the default. In this case, the macola7.ini edit is required.
